Administering medicine and exclusion

Medicines that have been prescribed by a doctor for your child can only be administered once written permission has been granted and the necessary forms are completed within the nursery. We are NOT able to administer any medication that has not been prescribed by a doctor such as Calcough or other over the counter medicines.

Periods of exclusions

Please do not bring your child to nursery if he/she appears unwell, has a temperature, an unexplained rash, or has vomited within the previous 12 hours.

A child must remain away from nursery in the case of:

Sickness & Diarrhoea – Until all symptoms have disappeared for 48hrs

Sore throat / Fever – 48 hours after start of antibiotics

Headlice – Until treatment has been administered

Conjunctivitis – Until there is no discharge from the eye(s), or treatment is given and inflammation has resolved

Chicken Pox – For 5 days from the onset of the rash. All spots must be scabbed over

Shingles – For 5 days after the appearance of the lesion or while the lesion is still weeping, whichever is the longer

Measles – For 5 days from the appearance of rash (if well in themselves)

Mumps – For 5 days from the onset or until subsidence of last infected gland, if longer

Rubella – For 5 days from the appearance of rash

Whooping cough – For 21 days after the appearance of the characteristic cough unless treated with the appropriate antibiotic in which case after 5 days on antibiotic.

Impetigo – Until symptoms are crusted, cleared or healed by antibiotic treatment.
