The Importance of the Key Person

The key person approach is a statutory requirement throughout the Early Years Foundation Stage, it ensures the quality relationships with children are more manageable and possible to achieve for each child.

This ensures that there are opportunities to build relationships with individual children and their parents. This is developed through routines which give staff the time to respond to the care and developmental needs of the individual children in their key worker group.

Effective partnerships with parents support these relationships which develop through a shared knowledge and understanding of the needs and development of the child.
